Staff Biography

Mariah Black Mariah Black Mariah Black began her dance journey at the age of 5 with United Academy of the Performing Arts. She joined the competition team at age seven, and shortly after became a dancer at Dance From the Heart when her cousin, Addie, opened the doors for the first year.

Since being at Dance From the Heart, Mariah has won several titles with both her solo and group performances. She was named "Elite Grand Champion" three years in a row at Footloose. She has competed in numerous regional competitions and has also been invited to several national level competitions. She attended the nationals in New Jersey and has also performed at Hershey Park in Pennsylvania. Along with competitive dancing, Mariah has performed with other members of Dance From the Heart at local nursing homes and hospitals in order to spread their talent and happiness to the residents. Outside of the studio, she performed as a dancer in the VVS drama club production "Thoroughly Modern Millie."

Mariah began assisting classes in high school and now teaches and assists at the studio when she is not at school. She is a full time student at Utica College where she just earned her Bachelor's Degree in Health Professions. She will begin her Master's Program in Occupational Therapy and will graduate in 2015.

Her passion for dance has spread into her work at school; she has done research projects on the affects of dance on both the mental and physical health of her patients, and one day hopes to be able to incorporate dance into her treatment plans.
